Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 21, 2002 - Game 155

Well it took extra innings, but the magic finally came to an end as the Mets beat the Expos in eleven innings 6-3, to stop Montreal's winning streak at seven. Esix Snead, who the Mets received in a trade form the Cardinals, came on to hit a walk-off three-run homer to end the Expos winning streak. Dan Smith hit Joe McEwing with a pitch and then walked Roger Cedeno to set-up Snead's game winning hit. Mo Vaughn added his 25th homer and Armando Benitez came on to pitch the final two innings for his first win of the year.

Endy Chavez was the hitting star for the Expos, getting four hits and scoring two runs. He also hit his first career homer in the sixth. The Expos looked like they were going to win their eighth in a row heading into the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead, only to watch as both Scott Stewart and Tim Drew gave up hits to allow the tying run to cross the plate and send this game into extra innings, the third time in the last six games the Expos had gone to extra innings.

Some bad news for Expos: pitcher Masato Yoshii, who had really been pitching the best ball of his career, came up with a torn labrum in his shoulder and will under go surgery ending his season.
