Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 20, 2002 - Game 154

Tony Armas Jr. had another outstanding performance, going seven strong innings, scattering nine hits and giving up just one run in the Expos' 6-1 victory and their seventh win in a row, beating the Mets 6-1. Armas Jr. is now 11-12 with a 4.43 ERA. Joey Eischen and Dan Smith each pitch a scoreless inning to help preserve the victory for Tony.

Vladimir Guerrero, looking to become just the fourth person to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases, had three steals and his 104th RBI of the year. The Expos hammered the Mets pitching with 12 hits, lead by rookie Jamey Carroll's three hits to raise his average to .424 since his call up. Wilton Guerrero, Michael Barrett, Vladimir and Endy Chavez each added two hits apiece as the Expos climbed over .500 at 77-76 and took sole possession of second place. Vladimir also scored his 100th run of the year for the fifth time in his brilliant career, a record for the Expos. The Expos have three winning streaks of at least six games this year. Last year their best string of wins in a row was four.

Manager Frank Robinson has done an unbelievable job this year with this team I really doubt if anybody could have coaxed more wins out these guys.
