Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 19, 2002 - Game 153

Bartolo Colon became only the second pitcher in the history of the major leagues to win 10 games in both leagues in the same season, getting his 20th win of the year. The Expos won 6-5 over the Marlins. It gave the Expos a sweep of the Marlins, a team the Expos take great pride in beating. The Marlins owner is former Expos owner Jeffrey Loria. The only other pitcher to record 10 wins in both leagues was Hank Borowy of the 1945 New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. It wasn't exactly one of Colon's better performances, going five innings, giving all five runs on nine hits to watch his ERA soar to 3.13.

Four different relief pitchers came on to each pitch one inning to help preserve the Colon victory. Tim Drew picked up his second career save, getting the final three outs. Jose Vidro had three hits and two RBIs to help lead the balanced hitting attack with three other players each getting two hits. The Expos had 12 on the day, lead by Vidro and Orlando Cabrera who also had two RBIs. The lone bright spot for the Marlins was Kevin Millar getting a single to extend his hitting streak to 25 games.
