Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 18, 2002 - Game 152

Montreal extended their winning streak to six with another extra innings win against the Florida Marlins. Vladimir Guerrero, as he has done all year, provided the clutch hit in the 11th with a single to put the Expos up for good and bring the Expos back to .500 at 76-76.

Jamey Carroll, who was on base via a single, scored the go ahead run. The Expos only managed 8 hits, with six coming off former Expos Carl Pavano. Tomo Ohka pitched a terrific game, going the first eight innings. He left with a shut out, going those eight innings giving up just six hits and striking out seven. He lowered his ERA down to 3.18, but was not involved with the decision. Dan Smith gave two hits to the only hitters he faced to start the ninth and then Jim Brower came in and gave up a two-run single to Derek Lee to send the game into extra innings, or, as I like to call it, free baseball. As he has been doing all year the left-hander Joey Eischen came in and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to get his fifth win against just one loss. Tim Drew, the former Indian and brother of the Cardinals J.D. Drew, came on to pitch the final inning to gain his first big league save.
