Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 14, 2002 - Game 149

Michael Barrett and Endy Chavez each had two-run doubles in the sixth inning to lead the Expos to their second straight win, beating the Mets 5-4. Mike Piazza hit two homers for the Mets to give him his eighth straight season with 30 or more homers. That is only the 11th time in major league history that it has ever been done. In nine of Piazza's ten years, he has hit at least 30 homers.

The Expos had a big crowd for them with 17,278 on hand to watch a very exciting win for the Expos. The Expos only had seven hits, but made them all count. Tony Armas Jr. had his third straight strong outing, going six innings giving up just six hits and two runs to raise his record to 10-12 with a 4.58 ERA. Dan Smith came on in the ninth to gain his second save of the season.

The Expos have been pretty much steady all year long, never really playing bad for long periods and never playing great for long periods of time. They just seem to be able to stay close to .500 for most of the season. The win pulls them to 73-76, just three games under .500.
