Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 13, 2002 - Game 148

Vladimir Guerrero hit his 37th and drove in three runs to give him his fifth straight season with 100 RBIs. The Expos beat the Mets 11-8. The Mets made six errors, three of them by 10-time Gold Glove second baseman Roberto Alomar. The Expos pounded out 16 hits with five players having two hits or more each. Matt Cepicky had three hits and an RBI and Jose Vidro hit a two run homer for his 18th homer and three RBIs to give him 86 on the year.

The story was Bartolo Colon, who has been everything and more than the Expos could have hoped for. Colon (9-3) got his 19th win of the season overall. He was 10-4 before leaving Cleveland and coming to Montreal. Colon needs one more victory to become only the second pitcher in major league history to win 10 games in both leagues during the same season. Mo Vaughn was the hitting star for the Mets going 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs after hitting his 23rd and 24th homers of the year. The Mets themselves had 16 hits, but they just made too many mistakes to win the game. That has been the story all year long for the Mets. This is why you just can't go out and try to buy a championship because it usually doesn't work. The entire starting lineup of the Mets there is not one player from their minor league system. That's disgraceful and hopefully teams will learn from the Twins and the A's that you can build competitive teams if you use your minor league system to your advantage.
