Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

September 1, 2002 - Game 136

The Braves completed the sweep by beating the Expos on Sunday afternoon behind the pitching of Kevin Millwood and the bullpen. The Braves had 12 hits, lead by Julio Franco who had three of them. John Smoltz earned his third save of the series, and his 49th on the year to get within one of the magic number of 50. There have only been six other players ever reach that number.

Masato Yoshii didn't pitch bad, going six innings giving up eight hits and three runs, but the bullpen came in and gave up four hits and three runs over the next three innings. Michael Barrett and Jose Vidro each had two hits and an RBI to try and keep the Expos close. The Expos left 9 more men on base, which is giving manager Frank Robinson more gray hairs, and he says he has plenty. The Expos left 21 men on base in this series and didn't get really one quality start.
