Ben Sheets finally gets some support, leads Brewers to 6-2 win
Given a little run support, Ben Sheets wasn't about to let a win get away from him. Sheets
scattered five hits over eight innings and struck out Vladimir Guerrero with two runners on
to end the eighth as Milwaukee Brewers beat the Montreal Expos 6-2. Even his good outings haven't
always been enough for Sheets. In his league-leading 14 losses, Sheets has gotten an average of
only 1.43 runs per game. Sunday saw the Brewers bring out the lumber as they had three homers,
one each from Matt Stairs his 10th, Richie Sexson his 24th and the 21st by Jose Hernandez.
Guerrero was about the only thing that the Expos had going as he hit his 32nd homer of the year
to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He also had two steals to give him 24 on the year.
And he also added his 12th assist of the year throwing out Lenny Harris at home plate. Masato
Yoshii retired the first 10 hitters he faced before Eric Young singled to left in the fourth.
Young was quickly erased on a 4-3 double play. Yoshii lasted six innings, giving up three runs
on five hits as he lost his fifth game of the year. Guerrero, during his current 12-game hitting
streak, is batting .425 going 20-for-47 with five doubles, six homers and nine RBIs. An
interesting stat is the fact that the Expos are 0-10 on Sunday road games. The Expos now find
themselves back under .500 at 58-59 and they are also 19 games behind first place Atlanta Braves.
