Cabrera pitches Brewers to victory 5-2 over Expos
Jose Cabrera pitched six solid innings, and Eric Young lead the hitting with four hits as the
Brewers got their first win against the Expos this year 5-2 on Saturday night. Cabrera hasn't
exactly been lighting it up, he came into tonight's game with 4-8 record and an ERA of 6.14 as
a starter. He gave up homers to Vladimir Guerrero and Jose Vidro. Javier Vazquez (8-8) allowed
the first five hitters to all reach base as Milwaukee jumped on him early for three runs to take
an early lead. The Brewers won for only the third time in the last 11 games and are just 7-20
since the All-Star break. Vazquez has been very inconsistent over the last month and this start
was no different, he lasted just 6 innings giving up nine hits and four runs, while striking out
seven. His ERA went up to 3.87 on the year.
The Brewers had 12 hits with Young getting his four and Lenny Harris, Richie Sexson and Mark
Loretta all getting two hits a piece and all had an RBI each. Mike DeJean pitched the final
1 2/3 innings to get his 19th save on the year. Guerrero hit his 31st home run; extend his
hitting streak to 11 games, in the second to bring Montreal to within 3-1. Jose Vidro hit his
13th homer in the sixth to again cut the lead to 4-2. The lost dropped the Expos back to .500
at 58-58. They will send Masato Yoshii, who has been hot of late will try and get the Expos back
above the .500 mark.
