Adam Ulrey's Montreal Expos Diary

August 9, 2002 - Game 115
Colon wins his 15th game of the year and his 5th for the Expos

Vladimir Guerrero hit his 200th home run Friday night and allowed himself to dream about one day doing what Barry Bonds is: chasing the Exclusive 600 club. "God willing, if I stay healthy, I might be able to do it someday," Guerrero said after the Montreal Expos beat the Brewers 11-4. "It gives me more incentive to reach goals because I've only been here six years and I've already got 200. Guerrero tied Ken Griffey Jr. as the second-youngest active player to reach 200 homers when he hit his 30th of the season, a line-drive to left-center off Mike DeJean, leading off the ninth. Guerrero, like Griffey Jr., reached 200 when he was 26 years, 182 days. That trails only Alex Rodriguez, who reached it at 25 years, 290 days. Guerrero also added two more hits to give him a 3-for-5 night and raised his average to .325.

Six different Expos had at least 2 or more hits to help lead the 16 hit attack. Guerrero's shot drew applause from the crowd of 25,919 at Miller Park. "There's a lot more to come. He hasn't gotten close to what I call peak performance yet," Robinson said. "When he puts it all together it's going to be scary. He'll put up some numbers and we'll all be going, Wow." Robinson sees so much of himself in Guerrero, but even he admits this kid will be better. That's saying something as Robinson had a remarkable Hall of Fame career.

Jose Macias tied his career high with five RBIs, and Bartolo Colon won for the fifth time in six decisions with Montreal. Macias had a two-run homer, a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. A utility player who was at shortstop Friday night, Macias has 11 RBIs in his last five starts. Colon went seven tough innings throwing 112 pitches in getting his 15th win on the year. He gave up 10 hits and four runs, while striking out six in keeping his ERA at 3.20 on the year. The only blemish was a two-run homer by Matt Stairs, his 9th of the year. The win improved the Expos to 4-0 on the year against the Brewers. It also put them again over .500 at 58-57.
