July 16, 2002 - Game 93
The Phillies use another big inning to down the Expos 6-3
Marlon Anderson hit a three-run double in the fifth inning as the Phillies
used another big inning to beat the Expos 6-3. Phillies pitcher Randy Wolf
also helped his own cause getting an RBI single and pitching seven strong
innings. He gave up seven hits and three runs, while striking out seven in
getting his 5th win of the year. Armas Jr. on the other hand had another
awful outing going just 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs.
He also walked five and saw his ERA jump up to 4.55 and his record drop
to 8-9 on the year.
The Expos managed nine hits; hut left seven men on base.
Orlando Cabrera hit his 26th double on the year and drove in one of the
three runs. Montreal ended a streak of nine consecutive games with a homer.
The Expos hit 17 homers over the course of the streak. Armas Jr. threw
93 pitches, but only 47 were for strikes as he struggled from the first
pitch of the game. Andres Galarraga extended his hitting streak to
10-games with a run-scoring single in the bottom half of the fourth
to make it 5-2.
These past two games are typical of a young team who had
just came off of two big wins over the Braves and looked forward to facing
the last place Phillies only to lose both games. Now they face the disappointing
New York Mets for two games and have a chance to get back to their winning
ways. Again this team goes as the pitching goes. Over the last two games
the pitching staff has given up 17 runs and that won't cut it.
