The Ballad of PeteIt's back on the front burner.Bud Selig has brought it to light. Pete might get in. Pete just might. Does Pete belong? Should he be in? Some think it's right. Others think it's a sin. He went straight from hero, To scoundrel, they say. Banished from baseball, The game he so loved to play Can someone tell me, What went so wrong? Why was Pete weak? Why wasn't he strong? He liked to gamble, Or so it would seem. Did he bet on baseball? Did he bet on his own team? He was called Charlie Hustle, Cause he ran them all out. He was a HOF player. Of that there was no doubt. He got all those hits To beat Ty Cobb. He was one of the best At doing his job. Some say he has tarnished The integrity of the game. Some say he has tarnished The integrity of his name. But what of his records? Are we to forget them? And what of his detractors? Should we just let them Banish him forever, From the Halls of the greats? This has been one of baseball's Most contested debates. The fans are of two minds. They just can't agree. Should he be let in, Or should Bud just let it be? Some try to separate The player from the man. I'm not sure you should. I'm not sure you can. What is Bud's agenda? Will he stay the course? Even if Charlie Hustle, Shows no remorse? And what about Joe Jackson, Of the Black Sox scandal he? Will Bud reconsider him? What's his fate to be? It's back on the front burner. Bud Selig has brought it to light. Pete might get in. Pete just might. Robert Palazzo, 2003 Leave feedback on our message board. |
